Interview with floral artist Ryuki Yasui

ARBLUEM founder and creative director Ryuki Yasui makes confounding work from the most elemental source: the natural world.

Ryuki began his journey more than 10 years ago, having taken a qualification in floral art, then spending two years in commercial floristry before finally embarking to bring his creative vision to life in 2017.

But to speak of Ryuki’s work as confounding is only to speak of something as confounding because of its beauty, and of Ryuki’s ability to turn his arboreal and floral arrangements into artistic objects proper – his work draws attention to the presence of humanity and its imprint on the natural world. In doing so, Ryuki creates a space between art and craft; his arrangements do not evade the mark of human agency, nor do they relish in artifice for its own sake. 

It is this quality that has seen him collaborate across the world of contemporary art and fashion, having taken commissions for Chiaru Shiota, Salvatore Ferragamo and, of course, SHOHEI.
