This year's Sakura took its time to start blooming, but when it finally did we captured some impressions for you.

Despite Sakura happens all over the world, in Japan this event is almost holy and finds attraction on a global scale. With its 'Hanami' parties and people sitting underneath the cherry blossom trees enjoying sparkling wine this event vibes differently.

The way those trees are arranged around the city is another smart move by Japanese society. It feels like you are wondering underneath a sky of sakura flowers.

However, if you want to meet a friend at Nakameguro calculate an extra 20min around the station's exit. Due to the popularity of the area and lately the impact of mass tourism, it can take time to get there.
When you plan to go to Shinjuku Gyoen make a reservation otherwise you may have to wait until 4pm to enter the park. That's what happened to me as well.

Popular sakura spots are: Shinjuku Gyoen, Meguro River, Yoyogi Park, Ueno Park, Rikugien Gardens, Aoyama Cemetry, and for the people who love it calm and chilled: check out the riverwalks at  Osaki or Takadanobaba ✨
