Some of you are already familiar with the fact SHOHEI loves Kakishibu dye, and we already created a small capsule collection in the past years.
For our upcoming and always evolving collections we travelled back to Kyoto to meet one of the most iconic Kakishibu Dye producers in Japan, TOMIYAMA.

The southern area of Kyoto prefecture has been the one of three historical major producers in Japan. The history of Kakishibu dye started from the Nara period about 13000 years ago.
“Kakishibu” has been used in various ways in Japanese traditional life. It's been used in painting materials such as wood, or to dye materials such as cotton, but also fining agent for the brewing process of Sake
What is Kakishibu?
The main component of kakishibu is polymeric tannin.
Kakishibu is made by fermenting the juice extracted from unripe fermented persimmon fruits.
Since ancient times, kakishibu has been used to dye wood, fabrics, and paper and as strengthening, antiseptic, and waterproof agents. Moreover, in the field of folk medicine, it has been used as a hypotensive drug, a remedy for burns and chilblains, and added it to athlete’s food or drink it to lower high blood pressure or to cure a hangover.
